Retromastoid Approach
As a minimally invasive technique in Southern California
Minimally invasive retromastoid approach is used for the treatment of benign acoustic tumors that usually arise from the vestibular nerve. This technique is made with a small skin incision and skull opening behind the ear to access the posterior the cranium where the cerebellum (for balance and coordination), brainstem and many important nerves are located. A microscope and an endoscope are used for surgical visualization and advanced micro dissection instruments are used to excise a tumor. The skull opening is reconstructed, the incision is closed cosmetically, and a small bandage is applied.
